Cabinet Painting Checklist

PLANNING & SETUP

• Choose paint type and finish (enamel/satin/semi-gloss)

• Select a high-adhesion primer

• Label all cabinet doors and drawers

• Remove doors, drawers, hinges, and handles

• Store hardware in labeled bags/containers

• Set up a clean workspace for doors/drawers (use painter’s pyramids or blocks)

CLEANING & PREP

• Degrease all surfaces (use TSP or degreaser)

• Rinse and dry completely

• Fill dents or holes with wood filler

• Caulk gaps between boxes and walls/trim

SANDING

• Sand surfaces with 120–150 grit to dull the finish

• Sand repairs smooth

• Remove dust with vacuum + tack cloth or microfiber rag

PRIMING

• Apply bonding primer to all surfaces (doors, drawers, frames)

• Use brush for detail areas and foam roller for flat surfaces

• Let dry completely

• Lightly sand with 220 grit for smooth finish

PAINTING

• Apply first thin coat of cabinet paint

• Let dry 4–6 hours (or as directed)

• Lightly sand between coats (optional for ultra-smooth finish)

• Apply second coat

• Touch up any areas as needed

• Let everything cure completely (3–5 days for full hardness)

REASSEMBLY

• Reattach doors, drawers, and hardware carefully

• Align and adjust hinges as needed

• Test drawers and doors for smooth operation
